Wind Damage to Asphalt Shingle Roofs

Wind damage to asphalt shingle manifests as creased or displaced shingles. This damage generally occurs on the windward side of the roof and often results in creases in a straight line parallel to the rows of shingles, due to the support offered by the overlying shingles. Wind damage to a shingle roof does not always result in the roof immediately leaking. This is true because even if a shingle or tab is missing or creased, the underlying shingle and underlayment membrane beneath both may still be in place. Of course, this does not consider severe wind damage where the entire roofing system, shingles and underlayment included, have been stripped from the roof by wind.
