Concrete or Clay Tile Roofs

Roof tiles are usually made from concrete or clay, and are commonly cast into rectangular shapes of different profiles including flat, ‘S’, and barrel (which is actually a two-piece tile). Tile roofs are commonly found in warmer climates, as clay on concrete have high resistance to sustained UV exposure. Older tile roofs were commonly installed using only cementitous mortar as an adhesive between the underside of the tile and the roof underlayment. Modern tile roofs are usually mechanically fastened with nails or screws, or adhered to the roof with a foam adhesive. They are sometimes installed over wood furring strips fastened over the underlayment.
