Common Problems
The tabs below present some common problems that can occur at a home or other building. The organization of this material is complicated by the multiple variables that typically surround a given concern. These variables include but are not limited to:
- manifestations of the problem (cracks, stains, etc.)
- component affected (wall, slab, etc.)
- component material or finish and how it was constructed or installed (wood, CMU, etc.)
- cause of the problem (settlement, etc.)
- origin of the problemn (improper soil preparation, etc.)
Due to these variables, determining the cause of a particular problem within reasonable certainty often requires an on-site inspection by a qualified professional. With that said, information such as that presented here can provide an interested person with a better understanding of the structures and finishes that may be involved, and at least perhaps narrow the possibilities as to the cause of a particular concern.
Obviously, not all components or concerns are presented or discussed.
